I realise after my last blog, many of you are keen to know the result. I don’t want to leave you all hanging…… ๐
…….So the scan was done by an experienced ultrasonographer at a GP practice open on the weekend. (In the UK most GP practices are closed on the weekend unless they have a special contract).
The scan was an external, transpelvic scan rather than the transvaginal internal scan E is used to. The scanner found both gestation sacs and both heartbeats. Phew! ๐
One twin was 10.8mm and the other appeared to be 6.1mm.
We were both reassured, but E was worried about the second fetus.
Twin A was growing well in line with her gestation age but Twin B now seemed smaller than Dr Z’s measurements. A fetus is not likely to shrink. So either Twin B’s growth is slowing or the position of the scan wasn’t sufficient. I felt an internal scan would have been better as it could potentially scan behind the womb, but I’m not the one that is having the scan and we were relieved everything was progressing.
The scanner mentioned a scan package deal if we wanted further scans in the future (y’know, buy 1 and get the 2nd half price) but suggested we waited longer between them.
For the rest of the day we occupied ourselves. E updated her sister, but she continued to be anxious about further twinges despite the smudging settling. E was worried now that Twin B could miscarry.
So today it’s 7+2 weeks and our next scan is on Thursday.
So pleased to hear you have two heartbeats but sorry that it’s all still a bit stressful with the measurements of twin B. I hope the next scan has a better view and you see a more consistent measurement.
